“venice”

The first exhibition will focus on tables. It will be presented more than twenty tables , including some luminous.
Main actor will be “Venice” table, that inspired the title of the exhibition.
Designed by Robert Mangurian for the Memphis Milano collection 1983, it has been realized as an unique piece and never produced.
Made in anodized titanium, essential in the shape and weight, is the precursor of the metal light furnish.

We asked Robert Mangurian:
“What was your aim, idea, designing Venice in 1983?”

He answered:
“Behind Venice was thought to produce the light table ever (for strength to weight). In hindsight, wood would have better choice. But I was thrilled with the way one could color titanium, and the delicacy of the finish. In addition, I liked the fact that touching the surface with one’s hand changed (temporarily) the coloration of the titanium.
I had been working with James Turrell, and got caught up in the knife edge to the table. I would have liked it better with the edge being really sharp, and then the story would be that the table would be a very dangerous place to have an argument.
Sub-text to the table was my father’s involvement. He was an aeronautical structural engineer”.
